Using TrainingPeaks Metrics

How to Use TrainingPeaks Athlete Metrics in WKO

Overview

TrainingPeaks has long valued the importance of tracking not only athletes’ training data but also considering surrounding metrics like sleep, stress, weight, and much more. Athletes and their coaches can currently track over 30 different metrics (check out the full list here) to better understand their impact on the entire training and performance system with a combination of quantitative and qualitative data.

What is a TrainingPeaks Metric?

A metric is an athlete-tracked data point that refers to a specific part of the response to or readiness for training. For example, it has long been acknowledged that sleep patterns and feelings of life stress can impact training and racing performance, and WKO uses the metrics tracked in TrainingPeaks to unlock more tools and data than ever before to develop a full understanding of their effects on an athlete’s readiness to train.

How do I Use Metrics?

WKO allows you to analyze athlete metrics individually and/or blend them into training data analytics to generate a powerful understanding of an athlete’s performance. As an example, take a look at the screenshot below of the Metrics dashboard from the WKO Dashboard Library.

To access TrainingPeaks metrics in WKO, simply link a WKO with a TrainingPeaks athlete account and download the athlete’s data to WKO. All metrics tracked by the athlete will be displayed in the athlete’s details page, which is accessed by clicking on the athlete name (step 1 in the screenshot below). Once you know what metrics the athlete is tracking, you can then “Add an existing dashboard” (step 2) and search for dashboards (or charts) with those metrics (step 3).

Key Benefits of Tracking Metrics

Tracking metrics gives us a much better understanding of the whole athlete, the impact and readiness of training, and general subjective feelings.
  • We are able to track metrics to better determine the athlete’s response to training beyond the training numbers.
  • We can blend data, such as tracking sleep quality, feeling, and training power outputs to better understand performance.
  • We can identify patterns in non-training data that impact training and performance.
